Strength design

Strength design calculations include:

  • Bending and axial compression design/check for generic column, beam and wall sections, based on PMM interaction diagrams. Column and wall design takes into account the effects of slenderness and imperfections.
  • Shear design/check for column, beam and wall sections. Column and beam sections can be rectangular, circular, L or T shaped. They can be either with or without reinforcing. Wall sections can be any combination of rectangular segments. The design is based on the strut and tie method, with variable or fixed angle as set for by the user.

Capacity design

Strength design calculations include:

  • DCM and DCH design/check of transverse reinforcement of columns and beams, based on bending strength of end sections.
  • Automatic definition and management of critical regions for beams, columns and walls.
  • DCM and DCH design/check for weak beam-strong column action. Column longitudinal reinforcement is designed or checked, based on bending strength of beams. Joints can include any number of beams framing into columns at arbitrary (horizontal) angles.
  • DCH beam-column joint design/check of transverse reinforcing based on beam end reinforcement and column shear. Joints can include any number of beams framing into columns at arbitrary (horizontal) angles.
  • Walls can be: Non Seismic, Ductile, Large Lightly Reinforced.
  • Automatic vertical translation of moment diagrams for Ductile Walls in DCM or DCH.
  • Automatic magnification of shear for Ductile Walls and Large Lightly Reinforced Walls in DCM or DCH.
  • Automatic calculation of additional dynamic axial force for Large Lightly Reinforced Walls in DCM and DCH.
  • Design/check of wall coupling beams.
